McKenna's Surgery and Recovery Fund

Vibrant, outgoing, loving, witty, selfless...these are all adjectives that can only begin to describe my daughter McKenna. Two years ago, that began to change. It started with a quick visit to the ER where she complained of some back pain.


Over the next 20 months and into/through the pandemic, McKenna would go from vibrant to depressed and struggling, from outgoing to almost housebound (even after shelter-in-place orders were lifted), and the witty sense of humor I so adore been nearly extinguished by a constant almost intolerable pain. Through multiple medical visits, struggles to get care during the pandemic, we finally have a diagnosis: disc herniation. The herniation is compressing her nerves (see photo below) and causing tremendous constant pain but, praise the Lord, its treatable! Her needed surgery, a laminectomy with discectomy, has ~ 8 week recovery period and is now scheduled for mid-January (given no earlier opening comes available).


While McKenna's surgery will be covered by insurance, her household bills during this time will not be. She doesn't qualify for temporary disability or paid medical leave (not offered to part time student employees), unemployment or even short term SSI through the federal government. We have exhausted all avenues and now, are asking for help from you. We are so grateful for the support we've received so far and appreciate any help you can possibly provide.
