Gallinas Valley Little League New Field!

Let's build a much-needed baseball diamond! Turn a beat-up grass field into a nice baseball diamond at Vallecito. Donate today and your donation will be matched! our goal is to raise $10,000 to meet our $10,000 matched donation goal.

We're fortunate to have the help from Dante's Boys Foundation (DBF)  who have partnered with us to help our league, including a pledge of $10,000 in matching funds to Gallinas Valley Little League toward building this field! Their organizational purpose is to help kids through active participation in sports.

The Need:
We don't have the fields to support the number of kids playing baseball in GVLL, specifically in our younger divisions. Last year's shortened season didn't reveal the scheduling difficulties that were to come. Regardless of capacity, a child can join our little league and not have the opportunity to play on a true dirt basepath baseball diamond until their 4th year in the league.  The quality of our lower-division fields makes it difficult to learn baseball skills as there are few true bounces for ground balls. Issues like poor drainage limit the use of the 2 dedicated lower-division fields at Mark Day we currently use. Upper divisions are affected too, as there is a greater need to share fields that could otherwise be fully dedicated to the needs of those divisions. In short, our fields do not meet the needs of the league, and if compared, fall far short in quality to neighboring leagues.

The Short Term Solution:
Fortunately, there is a field at Vallecito that was decommissioned but has most of the facilities (dugouts and backstop fencing) in-place to allow us to simply add a baseball diamond and bring an unplayable field back into commission at a fraction of the cost of a full rebuild. This is the field closest to the Vallecito blacktop.

The Plan:
The work can be done in 3 phases:
1. Removal of weeds/top 4 inches for the infiled area
2. New Soil, baseball dirt, and grading
3. Final leveling, new bases, mound, and portable bleachers
Minimum Cost Estimate: $15,000+

Note that this estimate does not include unanticipated overages and does not include new infield grass or work beyond patching the current infield- stretch goal funds could be used to improve the infield.

Our Next Goal:
We will need at least another additional field for our lower divisions and are in the process of identifying options for that field(s). To oversimplify, a typical division of 6 teams requires one field for games and 50% usage of an additional field for practices. Last year we had 2 dedicated all grass fields and two shared fields for 22 teams in our lower divisions- although we were going to employ non-baseball fields to help make up the difference. Additional improvements are sorely needed for the two locations at Mark Day, although we're limited in the improvement we can make on those fields. The improvement of fields for our younger kids will improve field quality (and availability) for all divisions and they can be maintained for age using the field. There is more to figure out, and more to plan if you want to help, let us know!
