For many of you reading this, we have taught your children and shared many a positive sports experience.  You are part of our Jelly Bean family and you know us personally as Coach Speedy and Coach Pickles.

Like Sesame Street did for early education, we are doing the same for sports. Jelly Bean Sports represents the foundation sports has never had. A frontline solution for several major issues confronting sports (e.g. getting more girls involved in sports, fighting childhood obesity and making sports more accessible for ALL children), today, we stand at a crossroads. We have been BENT by Covid but not BROKEN.

A non-essential business, Jelly Bean Sports came to a screeching halt in March of 2020. While work has began to trickle back, it has been a very slow recovery. 

We hope in reading this it is enough just to say, please help us keep the MAGIC alive. 

Today, we humbly ask for your support in reaching our GoFundMe campaign goal of $40,000.

WHO BENEFITS

With nearly 40 million preschool-aged kids are overweight and the science showing girls at a 40% disadvantage versus boys staying active 1 hour a day over 5 days, your contribution will go directly towards supporting our JELLY BEAN SPORTS' instruction, production and research activities. We actively study early learning sports development and have a pulse on the frontline fight to:

1. End childhood obesity

The Aspen Institute that studies youth sports has reported opportunities for Jelly Bean Sports to partner with organizations that serve low income communities. These types of partnerships can streamline our efforts to bring our programs to more children and to get us one step closer at making sports more accessible to ALL children.

SESAME STREET OF SPORTS

We have got to get kids excited to play sports. How we do that begins at an early age.

Today Sesame Street is a 50 years old educational giant in the early learning sector; and there are many lessons sports can learn from them. 

It is a model of programming and production success. 

The PROBLEM

The problem is two-fold: 

1. Sesame Street does not teach sports.

2. Sports do not have a "Sesame Street" (similar early learning mechanism)

The SOLUTION

In 2009, Founder Dr. Brad Kayden created Coach Pickles' Jelly Bean Sports.


Teaching children sports is not a new concept. Teaching children in the ways they learn best is also not a new concept. But teaching children sports in the ways they learn best is a new concept. Coach Pickles' Jelly Bean Sports teaches children sports in the ways they learn best. 

A Chicago-based early learning sports instruction, production and research company. Jelly Bean Sports was designed to teach young children sports in the ways they learn best.  

Like Sesame Street, it features:

-Characters
-Animation
-Adult role models
-Story, music and more

The MAGIC

The magic behind everything we do is using sports as a medium to:

-Teach parents and children to speak the same language,
-Celebrate small wins together and
-Enjoy the fun of shared learning experiences

This is the Jelly Bean Way.


TRYING TO SURVIVE THE COVID SHUTDOWN
 
JELLY BEAN SPORTS IS SHUT DOWN

Pre-pandemic, Jelly Bean Sports was thriving.

We were on our way to making some big moves that would further build our brand and that would ultimately help us to reach more families. It would mean the growth and expansion of all three areas of JELLY BEAN SPORTS - INSTRUCTION, PRODUCTION & RESEARCH.

...until we were shut down. :(


INSTRUCTION

We previously serviced (12) different facilities with our live local instructional programming

The top experts in our field, early learning sports development programming was how JELLY BEAN SPORTS began. Pre-pandemic we were operating with most of our programming SOLD OUT or running at near capacity. Consistent Sold Out programming was reached in 2019, leaving the next step for us to scale.

Plans for local expansion in Chicago was already in progress.  Maintenance budgets have been exhausted trying to stay afloat during covid.

MAINTENANCE

Reinvestment - A growing program put heavy usage on our programming equipment. The training aids we rely heavily upon had run their lifecycle. In March of 2020 we were in the middle of procuring new stuff:

-replacing new wearable technology (kid Fitbits) $1800
-replacing 8 year old tablets for our coaches in the classroom $1500
-replacing 3 year old logo'd ball carry bags $300
-replacing 5 year old training aids - dots, cones, parachutes, emoji balls $500
-replacing 5 year old basketball goals w/ carts $400
-replacing 10 year old soccer nets and new character banners $500

JELLY BEAN SPORTS WEARABLE TECHNOLOGY

Expanding our footprint by 100% meant working towards adding another 12 facilities to our local Chicago roster. ($10K)

Further it meant stepping outside Chicago for the first time to two new markets outside the state of Illinois. Two markets we considered low hanging fruit for JELLY BEAN SPORTS programming:  

-Wisconsin (Milwaukee) 
-Indiana (Indianapolis) 

Expansion demands more human resource, which means hiring talented people. We sought:
-Two office staff 
-Two sales staff
-Three coaches. ($10K monthly)


PRODUCTION

2020 was to represent a breakout year for JELLY BEAN SPORTS in the way of production. Production is our way of reaching more families.

We use production to: 

-Improve our messaging
-Explore digital ways to teach children sports in the ways they learn best and
-Educate on early learning sports development to parents, teachers and coaches 

We were bullish on production to the point of investing into an $800/mo small studio space that could get the ball rolling for:

-Podcasting
-Social Media video production
-Facebook lives
-Educational and marketing videos
-Small shoots

...unfortunately the pandemic shutdown would eat up our production budget we had to build out the studio. It currently sits undone as a glorified office for now.
 
Return on our investment into production would come in different ways,

JELLY BEAN SPORTS:

-Membership site
-Ad Revenue
-Merchandising
-Speaking / Consulting / Remote work

Reinvestment - getting to the point of production demanded our bread and butter business of instruction to be thriving. At the beginning of 2020, we were finally there, after a strong year in 2019. Our procurement list of needs was set: 

-Upgrading 11 year old Mac desktop office computers $3000
-acquiring a production grade camera $10-15K
-acquiring studio lighting $2-$5K
-acquiring sound equipment and sound-proofing materials $2000
-acquiring video monitors and stands $3000
-acquiring furniture, room decor and miscellaneous needs $3500
-acquiring editing software $500

In addition...

The rollout of (3) new animated videos were in queue for 2020. ($10K)

LARGE PRODUCTION

In 2019 a production partnership discussion with a Kentucky Community College Film Studies program began.

A (12) episode children's series is scheduled to begin production Fall 2021

The college will assist us with the production and scheduling for 25 marketing videos. The project was set to begin in Spring 2020. The plan is for students to travel to be on location in Chicago, and then for us to travel to their production studio in Kentucky.

...everything was cancelled due to Covid. :(

Currently on hold, the relationship is neat because it offers JELLY BEAN SPORTS low / no cost production capabilities while also serving the college's "work ready" commitment to give students real world experience.

In the end, it is just another way JELLY BEAN SPORTS has been resourceful and able to give back at the same time. 


COACH PICKLES ON LOCATION IN KENTUCKY


RESEARCH

Dr. Kayden continues his research as sports practitioner, studying and innovating early learning sports development even through Covid

The HOT area of new study is...Flow.

Combining his original science behind Jelly Bean Sports and the study of flow has opened his understanding for knowing why our Jelly Bean programs fundamentally work so well for young children. But also flow is giving us insight into the brain and how we are able to make kids feel their best and perform at their best.  

Essentially, flow science is giving us greater clarity around what the contributing factors are to sports success.

As a result of this discovery, we are in the process of developing educational programming to be delivered through our membership site THE SCIENCE OF SPORTS SUCCESS.

Jelly Bean Sports' Founder Dr. Brad Kayden will be offering individual and enterprise trainings and consulting on early learning sports programming and sports success early learning to elite.  

It is a revenue source focused on getting people feel progress in their thinking around life, parenting, sports and relationships. The establishment of such an membership platform to deliver educational training is relatively low cost, $1950/annually. But a cost nonetheless.

As a company, Dr. Kayden's research supports our activism around:

1. Ending childhood obesity
2. Getting more girls involved in sports
3. Fighting child abuse in sports
4. Making sports accessible for ALL children
