Transgender Resilience Project: Lifespan Study

Donation protected
The Transgender Resilience Project (TRP) is the first comprehensive study of the experiences of transgender and gender non-binary (TNB) people across the lifespan to develop evidence-based gender-affirming practices to improve health among TNBs. TRP serves as place for individuals in the TNB community to come together to support each other and educate others about the experiences, needs, and resilience of TNB people. TRP is a collaboration between the University of Southern California, the University of Las Vegas - Nevada, and Mercy College in New York. Team members are experts in gender minority topics and advocacy, and some are also members of the transgender and gender non-binary communities. Community members are encouraged to inquire about the research team and protocols during our funding campaign and during data collection and analysis, as well as during dissemination of findings at conferences and in publications. We are always seeking new members to join our advisory panels and research team. For more information regarding the Transgender Resilience Project and donations, contact Dr. Jack Simons at Mercy College, jsimons1 at Mercy dot edu, 9294545174, or visit our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/transgenderresilienceproject
Thank you for your consideration in supporting of this important and much needed research. All financial supporters will be recognized by TRP unless they wish to remain anonymous. TRP will lead to creating more awareness, knowledge, and community support to inform public policy to improve the lives of more transgender and gender non-nonbinary people.

May 2021

More than anything, our research team comprised of members of the transgender and gender non-binary communities and scholars from the University of Southern California, the University of Connecticut, the University of Nevada - Las Vegas, and Mercy College in New York would like to begin conducting research to support our project this year. This will allow us to develop the Transgender Resilience Project sooner than later. Greater numbers of transgender and gender non-binary people can find community to support each other and inform the wider community about their needs, experiences, and resilience toward health.

For those of us who conduct advocacy based research for communities that have been historically underrepresented in scholarship and academia like transgender and gender non-binary people, it is often difficult to find resources including funding. The ability to pay for transgender and gender non-binary research sometimes can be the single greatest obstacle to conducting research in this area.

And many members of the transgender and gender non-binary community know this: if funding cannot be secured, they will continue to have their voices marginalized and left out of important public policy debate.

I’m writing to you today because transgender and gender non-binary people are afraid scholarship with their voices in it won’t be an option for them to participate in.

It’s a hard truth, but it is, unfortunately, the truth – there are exceptional transgender and gender non-binary studies that go unfunded because funds allocated for transgender and gender non-binary research are limited or others simply will not fund research focused on the needs of this community.

And like so many transgender and gender non-binary people and their allies including scholars who do advocacy based research, they know that they will need to reach out to others for support while they continue do work toward their goals. But even with some funding, they still likely need more financial support. Without it, they may not be able to do any form of transgender research - regardless of what it’s focused on!

You can ensure the financial support is available to conduct research to advance the interests of transgender and gender non-binary people with a gift to the Transgender Resilience Project. Please, will you make a contribution and give transgender and gender non-binary people and their allies the chance to conduct advocacy based gender-affirming transgender research? Here’s a secure link to our online form where you can quickly make your gift:

There are many transgender and gender non-binary individuals out there, and scholars who desire to give them voice in their scholarship, while yearning to make a change in their lives and the world around them.

What isn’t known is who of those are the next breakthrough scientist, or community leader, or writer, or entrepreneur.

And it may never be known, if the financial support isn’t available.

You can prepare the next generation of politicians, doctors, scientists, teachers, artists – the people who will impact our transgender and gender non-binary communities and our lives for generations to come - with a gift to support the Transgender Resilience Project. Click here to make your gift:

Removing the barrier of cost – simply making research opportunities available to these communities and the scholars who advocate for them – is not just an investment in one study, it’s a commitment to the future of ongoing transgender scholarship and transgender and gender non-binary people throughout our world.

With your help, more gender diverse people with be affirmed and ready to make their mark in the world, strengthen our educational communities, and emerge as the leaders of tomorrow.

Please, if you’re able, make a gift to the Transgender Resilience Project today. We begin preparing to conduct our study, the first comprehensive study of the lives and experiences of transgender and gender non-binary people across the lifespan this summer, and like many other scholars, we do not want to put off beginning because we don’t have the funds for the Project that we need. A gift to the Transgender Resilience Project by June 25 ensures financial support will be available for our research team when we begin the study.

For the transgender and gender non-binary communities,

Jack
