Costruiamo qualcosa insieme per la Cambogia?

Un anno in Cambogia, e questa è una delle storie che più ci ha colpito e scosso.

Siamo entrati in contatto con l'associazione locale KKO (https://www.facebook.com/kumnitkumar) che si occupa di aiutare i bambini che vivono nelle fabbriche di mattoni nella periferia di Phnom Penh.

Non conoscevamo questa realtà: i lavoratori sono migranti interni, spesso con grossi debiti alle spalle, che non riescono a trovare altre opportunità di lavoro. La paga è a cottimo e molto bassa e perciò per queste persone è molto difficile guadagnare abbastanza per poter ripagare i propri debiti. In questa situazione, anche piccole spese come abiti, cure mediche, possono contribuire a far aumentare il debito.

Abbiamo visitate alcune di queste fabbriche e le condizioni di vita sono durissime, soprattutto per le decine di bambini che vivono all'interno di queste fabbriche, dove manca tutto. Niente scuola, luoghi sicuri per giocare, libri. Le case sono baracche di legno e lamiera, senza servizi igienici, l'ambiente è molto sporco.

KKO li sta aiutando su tutti questi ambiti, tramite cliniche mobili che aiutano i bambini con aiuti sanitari, proponendo attività formative e ludiche e distribuendo beni essenziali, come vestiti e scarpe.

Con questa raccolta vorremmo contribuire al lavoro di KKO e ad un bisogno fondamentale: fornire alle famiglie che vivono in una fabbrica una struttura con dei bagni e area lavaggio mani, in modo che sia garantita l'igiene di base.

Il costo complessivo è di 2000€, cifra raggiungibile se siamo in tanti, anche con un piccolo contributo di ciascuno. Circa un centinaio di bambini potrà beneficiare di questa struttura.

Eventuali donazione aggiuntive saranno dedicate ad altre attività di assistenza per le famiglie, in accordo con KKO.

One year in Cambodia and this is one of the situations that has shocked us the most.

We’ve met a local organization called KKO (https://www.facebook.com/kumnitkumar) that supports the children who live in the brick factories in the outskirts of Phnom Penh.

We didn’t know about this issue before: the workers are internal migrants, often with significant debts, who cannot find any other job opportunity. Since salary is low and by piecework, it is very difficult for these people to earn enough to repay their debts and move on. In this situation, even small expenses like clothes or medical treatment can result in an increase of the debt,

We have visited some of these factories, and the living conditions are really harsh, especially for the dozens of children who live inside these factories, where everything is missing. No school, no safe places to play, no books. The houses are shacks made from wood and corrugated iron and have no toilets and the surrounding area is much littered.

KKO is helping them on many of these issues through its mobile clinics that assist the children with basic health treatments, organizing educational and playful activities and distributing basic items such as clothes and shoes.

With this fundraiser we would like to contribute to the work of KKO and to a fundamental need: provide the families who live in one of the factories with a toilet and hand-washing station in order to guarantee some basic degree of hygiene.

The total cost is € 2000, a sum that we can easily reach if there are many of us, even with a small contribution. Around 100 children can benefit from this toilet.

Any donation past this amount will be give to other activities to assist these families, in agreement with KKO.
