Ciao,

Sono Daniele, il padre di Tommaso.

Tommaso è affetto da una mutazione sul gene/proteina CHAMP1.

Per usare qualche numero, la popolazione mondiale ha raggiunto gli 8 miliardi da poco.

Ci sono circa 120 persone nel mondo che ad oggi sappiamo avere questa mutazione.

È lo 0.0000015% della popolazione mondiale.

CHAMP1 causa primariamente un ritardo mentale, assieme ad un lungo elenco di problemi che qualunque "genitore normale" definirebbe problemi gravi (crisi epilettiche, sordità, ipotonia, problemi ai denti, ...)

Noi, padre e madre, non abbiamo questa mutazione (è chiamata mutazione de novo).

Ad oggi, la medicina non da una spiegazione del perché sia avvenuta questa specifica mutazione, è solo sfortuna.

Però, la malattia è stata identificata nel 2015, e la fondazione americana è stata fondata nel 2018.

Nel 2022 siamo arrivati ad avere linee cellulari IPSC, e sono state fatte due convention delle famiglie.

Ci sono diversi ricercatori che stanno lavorando su CHAMP1, anche Stefano Berto (ultimo ad arrivare, ma il primo italiano, che lavora negli USA).

I fondi saranno usati per la ricerca e la conoscenza (awareness) tramite la fondazione americana (champ1foundation.org) e l'associazione europea (champ1foundation.eu).

La ricerca si sta muovendo in fretta.

I'm Daniele, the dad of Tommy.

Tommy is affected by a CHAMP1 gene/protein mutation.

To put it in numbers, the world host 8 billion people now.

There are ~120 persons known to have this mutation.

It's the 0.0000015% of the human kind.

CHAMP1 mutation gives mainly intellectual disability, among a very long list of things that are considered major issues by "normal parents" (seizures, deafness, hypotonia, dental issues, ...)

We, daddy and mummy, does not have the mutation (called de novo mutation).

As of today, the medicine say that there is no cause for it, just bad luck.

Still, the disease has been identified in 2015, and the foundation started it's job in 2018.

2022, we have IPSC cellular lines, and 2 family conference has been hosted.

Several researchers are working in it, also Stefano Berto (the last to join, but the first Italian, even if working in US).

The funding will be used for the research and the awareness through the US foundation (champ1foundation.org) and the EU association (champ1foundation.eu).
