Mamma Latte nelle ex zone di guerra in Uganda

Mi rivolgo a voi con entusiasmo e determinazione per annunciarvi che abbiamo esteso il nostro progetto Mamma Latte in una nuova zona dell'Africa.

Grazie al lavoro, di ricerca e sul campo, svolto nelle fasi precedenti del progetto, siamo stati testimoni di un impatto tangibile sulle comunità del Kenya coinvolte nel progetto. Questo ci ha spinto a continuare a estendere il nostro impegno e a portare avanti questa importante missione.

Questa nuova fase del progetto, che inizierà nell'ultima settimana di luglio, ci offre l'opportunità di raggiungere le comunità del Nord Uganda, nell'ex zona di guerra iniziata nel 1987, un'area dove l'impatto della guerra colpisce ancora i mezzi di sussistenza di molti, infatti, oggi più della metà della popolazione locale vive in condizioni di estrema povertà.

Molte donne sono state violentate, bambini rimasti orfani, e capifamiglia rapiti e uccisi: tutto questo ha influito negativamente sulla qualità e sulla profondità della vita familiare.

I conflitti armati di lunga data nei paesi vicini, Repubblica Democratica del Congo e Sud Sudan, hanno portato molti rifugiati a fare pressione sul Paese, creando così una feroce competizione per la sopravvivenza umana.

Il progetto Mamma Latte è nato dal nostro desiderio di contrastare i gravi fenomeni di malnutrizione neonatale presenti nell’Africa orientale, luoghi in cui questa piaga è purtroppo endemica.

Con molta passione, durante questi anni di studi in Ostetricia, ho preso a cuore il messaggio di diffondere la cultura dell’allattamento al seno e garantire a tutti i neonati privi di un adeguato contesto di protezione una nutrizione adeguata e il miglior inizio di vita possibile: ed è così che ho ideato questo Progetto.

In Uganda ci sono troppi neonati orfani e troppe poche alternative in termine di nutrizione neonatale.

Padre Scalabrini, noto missionario disse che tutti abbiamo la possibilità di migliorare la nostra esistenza ma per farlo le persone devono essere responsabilizzate, è necessario dar loro fiducia e riconoscerne le capacità.

È qui che il nostro progetto entra in gioco. Purtroppo, nelle aree più svantaggiate, le madri spesso affrontano sfide quali la mancanza di informazioni adeguate, la scarsità di risorse e l'influenza di miti e credenze tradizionali che scoraggiano l'allattamento materno.

Attraverso una serie di workshop educativi, miriamo a sensibilizzare le comunità sull'importanza dell'allattamento al seno per gli orfani e affrontare le barriere che impediscono la sua pratica diffusa quindi fornendo alle madri le competenze necessarie per avviare e mantenere un allattamento di successo. Allattare è uno dei gesti più potenti che una donna può fare, non solo una fonte naturale di nutrimento ma simbolo di amore, accudimento.

L’obiettivo del progetto è Influenzare il cambiamento promuovendo e sostenendo l’allattamento, toccando i cuori e le menti delle comunità affinché ogni orfano possa avere la possibilità di crescere e nutrirsi in una famiglia, sicura ed amorevole.

Tuttavia, per realizzare appieno il potenziale di questo progetto, abbiamo bisogno del vostro aiuto!

I fondi raccolti saranno utilizzati per raggiungere e assistere un numero sempre maggiore di famiglie nelle comunità più vulnerabili, fornire materiali educativi, organizzare workshop e addestrare operatori sanitari locali.

Ogni contributo, grande o piccolo, sarà molto apprezzato e faremo in modo che ogni euro donato venga utilizzato in modo responsabile ed efficiente per il progresso del progetto.

I am writing to you with enthusiasm and determination to announce that we have extended our Mamma Latte project to a new part of Africa.

Thanks to the research and field work carried out in the previous phases of the project, we have witnessed a tangible impact on the Kenyan communities involved in the project. This has prompted us to continue extending our commitment and moving forward with this important mission.

This new phase of the project, which will start in the last week of July, offers us the opportunity to reach out to the communities of Northern Uganda, in the former war zone that started in 1987, an area where the impact of war still affects livelihoods of many, in fact, today more than half of the local population lives in extreme poverty.

Many women have been raped, children orphaned, and heads of families kidnapped and killed: all of this has negatively affected the quality and depth of family life.

Long-standing armed conflicts in neighboring countries, the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan, have led many refugees to put pressure on the country, thus creating a fierce competition for human survival.

The Mamma Latte project was born from our desire to combat the serious phenomena of neonatal malnutrition present in East Africa, places where this scourge is unfortunately endemic.

With great passion, during these years of studies in Obstetrics, I have taken to heart the message of spreading the culture of breastfeeding and guaranteeing adequate nutrition and the best possible start in life to all newborns without an adequate protective context : and that's how I created this project.

In Uganda, there are too many orphaned babies and too few alternatives in terms of neonatal nutrition.

Father Scalabrini, a well-known missionary said that we all have the possibility of improving our existence but to do so people must be made responsible, it is necessary to trust them and recognize their abilities.

This is where our project comes into play. Unfortunately, in the most disadvantaged areas, mothers often face challenges such as lack of adequate information, scarcity of resources and the influence of traditional myths and beliefs which discourage breastfeeding.

Through a series of educational workshops, we aim to raise awareness in communities of the importance of breastfeeding for orphans and address the barriers preventing its widespread practice thereby equipping mothers with the skills needed to initiate and maintain successful breastfeeding. Breastfeeding is one of the most powerful gestures a woman can do, not only a natural source of nourishment but a symbol of love and care.

The goal of the project is to Influence change by promoting and supporting breastfeeding, touching the hearts and minds of communities so that every orphan has the opportunity to grow up and feed in a safe and loving family.

However, to realize the full potential of this project, we need your help!

The funds raised will be used to reach and assist an increasing number of families in the most vulnerable communities, provide educational materials, organize workshops and train local health workers.

Any contribution, large or small, will be greatly appreciated and we will ensure that every euro donated is used responsibly and efficiently for the progress of the project.
