Uganda nel cuore.
Negli anni settanta nel dopo scuola, ho lasciato il mio paese Lanusei, per cominciare una nuova vita nei Paesi Bassi, la dove ho conosciuto la madre dei miei figli; e dove con grande piacere ho avuto un buon lavoro nella chimica per poco piu' di 43 anni alla Dow Benelux; tre anni fa andato in pensione. Al fianco del mio lavoro da circa 23 anni, come intermediario tra i clienti ed i proprietari, gestisco e affitto anche decine di case per le vacanze in Ogliastra. Col quale ricavato faccio il possibile per aiutare i tanti orfani abbandonati nel Centro Africa.
Nel passato ho fatto tanto per venire incontro a Unicef per diversi anni, con un significativo contributo mensile per aiutare quelle piccole creature che morivano di fame. Poiché anni dopo attraverso i media, giornali e TV viene fuori il grande scandalo di queste organizzazioni, inclusa Unicef. Questo per me il punto, nel avere preso la decisione nel dare io stesso un aiuto diretto ma anche continuato. Con molta passione e cuore, sono attivo in Uganda dal 2009, questo per migliorare le condizioni di vita dei tanti orfani abbandonati.
Purtroppo questa terra è ancora alle prese con le conseguenze della sua lunga e sanguinosa guerra civile, durata più di ventuno anni e terminata appena quattordici anni fa, uccidendo centinaia di migliaia di persone e lasciando dietro di sé quasi due milioni di orfani solo in Uganda, compresi bambini che hanno perso i loro genitori, sia a causa di conflitti o a seguito dell'Aids.
Nella località di Kasaala nell'Uganda centrale, insieme a tre amiche svedesi, siamo riusciti a far costruire un intero orfanotrofio; ed in seguito nel 2015, anche una piccola scuola primaria per gli orfani e anche per i bambini delle famiglie locali più povere. Fino ad oggi, il principale aiuto che riceve l'orfanotrofio di Kasaala è ancora dovuto alla generosità di queste amiche; che si prendevano cura di questi bambini quando lavoravamo insieme, ma si prendono cura tuttora come se fossero i loro propri figli.
Dopo aver terminato il mio compito di sostegno a Kasaala, mi sono trasferito in un'altra parte dell'Uganda, dove purtroppo la miseria era ancora più grande di quanto mai pensassi inizialmente. In questa regione conoscevo due giovani donne, Barbra ed Esther, che gestivano un altro orfanotrofio, con costruzioni di baracche in legno e argilla; ma con tanto amore, dedizione, cura e rispetto per i piccoli bambini. Qualcosa di indescrivibile per noi ... vederli vivere in condizioni di estrema miseria e povertà; in un mondo completamente diverso dal nostro.
Dopo aver valutato i bisogni primari della comunità e aver preso buoni contatti con le autorità locali per ricevere i diversi permessi; ho quindi fornito inizialmente i fondi necessari per la realizzazione di una nuova cucina e per rifinire un vecchio dormitorio per l'orfanotrofio, elementi indispensabili per la cura di tanti bambini. Anche l'elettricità è stata portata qui e collegata, grazie all'aiuto che ho ricevuto da un amico, Salvatore.
Inoltre, circa tre anni fa, è stato approvato un progetto per una nuova scuola, che ha ricevuto il permesso di costruzione dal governo locale. Con i miei risparmi, ho iniziato a costruire e rifinire questi edifici. Nel portare al termine anche la recensione murata; perforato un nuovo pozzo ad una profondità di ben 115 mt con acqua sicura e sana per decine e decine d’anni. Portato al termine anche la grande terrazza interna.
Ultimo aggiornamento: Dopo anni di sacrifici e tanta energia, ma nel speciale anche grazie al supporto della signora Aurora, sono finalmente riuscito nel portare al termine la costruzione della (seconda) scuola, destinata a più di 300 bambini, che è stata aperta e inaugurata il 10 gennaio scorso ed è ora pienamente operativa, grazie ai volontari ed insegnanti locali. Il nostro orfanotrofio fornisce, con il permesso del governo locale, sia la scuola che la cura dei tanti orfani.
Loro che aiutiamo sono soprattutto donne e bambini che vivono non lontano da noi, ma tra noi e loro sembra, come se fossimo separati da due mondi. Se neghiamo loro l'opportunità di cercare un futuro migliore fuori dal loro continente, allora in questo caso, abbiamo l'opportunità di aiutarli direttamente lì, nel loro paese, nelle loro case.
Siamo appena rientrati dall'Uganda e dal Kenia dove stavamo per un periodo di ca tre mesi. In Katuugo Uganda, sono ora riuscito nel acquistare un lotto di terreno vicino all'orfanotrofio, dove la mia idea era la realizzazione di una piccola clinica, ma visto le alte spese che questa costruzione ti porta; purtroppo per ora devo rinunciare nel mettere questo passo in avanti. Ma sicuramente in questo nuovo terreno un giorno potrò costruire una nuova casa per gli orfani ed i loro volontari, ampliando cosi questo orfanotrofio.
Dopo tredici anni di aiuti economici, utilizzando i risparmi di una vita e persino dopo aver venduto la casa in Lanusei; col quale aiuto riuscendo nel completare gli edifici e la costruzione della scuola, purtroppo i miei risparmi sono alle ultime gocce. Per questo attraverso questo sito chiedo aiuto nel supporto al mio lavoro per i tanti orfani nel Centro Africa, con un grazie di cuore a loro che mi danno la fiducia.
Mi rivolgo umilmente a tutti voi; e attraverso voi a tutti coloro che desiderano fornire assistenza finanziaria a questa triste realtà. Da parte mia, vi prometto che ogni centesimo donato sarà un aiuto diretto. Attraverso questa pagina è possibile seguire gli sviluppi del nostro lavoro sul campo, visualizzare le foto del "prima" e del "dopo", seguire i lavori di costruzione delle strutture scolastiche e della recinzione attraverso fotografie e video; ed un resoconto tempestivo di ciò che facciamo realmente in loco. Per Katuugo e per i tanti orfani dell'Uganda, speranza e futuro di un Paese tanto ferito, quanto orgoglioso e stupendo.
Di seguito alcune foto e video della situazione della vecchia scuola attiva fino al febbraio del 2020; e gli edifici attuali, completati ad inizio gennaio 2022.
I miei obiettivi per la raccolta fondi portati al termine solo negli ultimi tre anni in Katuugo; e per quelli attuali sono:
1. Nuova costruzione di una nuova cucina. (completata)
2. Perforazione nuovo pozzo con diramazione idrica alle diverse case e scuola. (completato).
3. Completare la costruzione dei tre edifici scolastici e attivarli per lo svolgimento delle lezioni a fine gennaio 2022. (completati)
4. La costruzione di una grande terrazza tra gli edifici, in modo che i bambini non debbano entrare sia nella scuola che nel dormitorio con fango durante le forti piogge. (completato)
5. La scuola e l'orfanotrofio devono essere completamente recintati con una buona e solida recinzione murata (completata)
6. Infine, ma certamente non meno importante, vorrei comprare un nuovo lotto di terra vicino all'orfanotrofio, dove posso ampliare l'orfanotrofio. (completato)
7. Costruzione di nuovi bagni separati per ragazzi e ragazze (completati)
8. In Katuugo devo ancora portare al termine diversi lavori, tra cui 1) La costruzione di un nuovo dormitorio; questo con alta necessita'. 2) Le nuove tubature dell'acqua ai bagni e le toilette. 3) Mettere le grondaie nei diversi fabbricati con serbatoi di raccolta. 4) Al fianco della cucina ancora una piccola costruzione dove si possano decentemente lavare le stoviglie al riparo dalla pioggia od il forte sole. 5) L'acquisto di una lavatrice da 15 kg. Prezzo estimato di questi lavori in Ugandan Shillings 105 milioni, €27000 (Priorità)
9. In Kenia ad Oboke in un orfanotrofio dove vivono 250 orfani, vorrei dare anche la priorità nella costruzione di un nuovo pozzo di 220 di profondità, con dei serbatoi esterni ed una rete con deviazioni idriche alle diverse costruzioni, bagni, cucina ed alla scuola presente. La pompa verrà attivata attraverso l'energia di 16 pannelli solari. Il mio compito è quello appunto di fornire un servizio d'acqua efficiente di qualità che copre questo grande orfanotrofio. Nel momento loro che vivono qua hanno a disposizione un fosso di una minima profondità ma con acqua seriamente inquinata, vedi video. Questa prossima storia e' lunga, per questo evito di raccontarla come dovrei. Nel 2005 ad un eta' di dodici anni, mio figlio Niels, viene colpito da una rara malattia metabolica, la GM1 Gangliosidosis, uno a due casi nel milione ... per la quale non c'era in assoluto un rimedio di guarigione, con una prognosi di vita massimo di tre anni. Dopo circa un anno di inferno tra i diversi ospedali e visite specialistiche; lui che si dava per perso, sembrava inaspettatamente migliorasse senza nessuna cura o medicine. Dopo ancora un periodo, in un ospedale universitario in Gent, i medici che seguivano questo caso, ci dicono definitivamente che questa sua grave malattia, non venne in lui più riscontrata, non sapendo dare una giusta risposta alla sua improvisa guarigione .... Da questo momento ero cambiato, cambiato e mi sentivo in debito, in debito per la vita di mio figlio. Questo in breve il motivo che mi ha spinto a lavorare nel Centro Africa.

Uganda in my heart.
In the 1970's, after my school period, I left my hometown Lanusei, to start a new life in the Netherlands, where I met the mother of my children; and where with great pleasure I had a good job for 43 years at the Dow Benelux; three years ago I retired. Alongside my work for about 23 years, as an intermediary between customers and owners, I also manage and rent dozens of holiday homes in Sardinia. With its proceeds I do what I can to help abandoned orphans in Central Africa.
In the past, I did so much to help Unicef for several years, with a significant monthly contribution to help those little children who were starving. Since years later through the media, newspapers and TV, the great scandal of these organisations, including Unicef, came to light. This for me was the point, in having made the decision to give direct and continued help myself. With a lot of passion and heart, I've been active in Uganda since 2009, to improve the living conditions of the many abandoned orphans.
Unfortunately, this land is still grappling with the consequences of its long and bloody civil war, which lasted more than twenty-one years and ended just fourteen years ago, killing hundreds of thousands of people and leaving behind almost two million orphans in Uganda alone, including children who have lost their parents, either through conflict or AIDS.
In Kasaala in central Uganda, together with three Swedish friends, we managed to have an entire orphanage built; and later in 2015, also a small primary school for orphans and also for children from poorer local families. To this day, the main help the orphanage in Kasaala receives is still due to the generosity of these friends; they used to take care of these children when we worked together, but they still take care of them as if they were their own children.
After finishing my support work in Kasaala, I moved to another part of Uganda, where unfortunately the misery was even greater than I had initially thought. In this region I knew two young women, Barbra and Esther, who ran another orphanage, with wooden and clay shacks; but with so much love, care and respect for the little children. Something indescribable for us ... to see them living in conditions of extreme misery and poverty; in a world completely different from ours.
After assessing the basic needs of the community and making good contact with the local authorities to receive the various permits, I initially provided the necessary funds to build a new kitchen and a dormitory for the orphanage, essential elements for the care of so many children. Electricity was also brought here and connected, thanks to the help I received from Salvatore.
Furthermore, about three years ago, a project for a new school was approved and received building permission from the local government. With my savings, I started to construct and finish these buildings. Also completed the walled fencing; drilled a new well at a depth of no less than 115 mt with safe and healthy water for decades. Also completed the large internal terrace.
Last update: After years of sacrifices and a lot of energy, but with special thanks to the support of Mrs Aurora, I finally succeeded in completing the construction of my second school, for more than 300 children, which was opened and inaugurated on 10th January 2022 and is now fully operational, thanks to local volunteers and teachers. Our orphanage provides, with the permission of the local government, both the school and the care for the many orphans.
The ones we help are mostly women and children who live not far from us, but between us and them it seems as if we are separated by two worlds. If we deny them the opportunity to seek a better future outside their continent, then in this case, we have the opportunity to help them directly there, in their own country, in their own homes.
We're just returned from Uganda and Kenya where we were staying for a period of three months. In Katuugo Uganda, I've now managed to buy a plot of land next to the orphanage, where my idea was to set up a medical clinic, but given the high expenses that this construction brings; unfortunately I have to give up this step for now. But surely on this new land, one day I'll be able to build a new home for the orphans and their volunteers, thus expanding our orphanage.
After thirteen years of financial aid, using my life savings, and even after having sold my house in Sardinia, with which I'm helping to complete the buildings and the construction of the school, unfortunately my savings are on their last drops. That is why through this site I ask for help, in supporting my work for the many orphans in Central Africa, with heartfelt thanks to them who give me this confidence.
I humbly appeal to all of you; and through you to all those who wish to provide financial assistance to this sad reality. For my part, I promise that every donated penny will be a direct help. My goals for fundraising completed over just the past three years in Katuugo; and for the current ones are:
1. Construction of a dormitory for all girls and boys. Construction of a new kitchen. (completed)
2. Drilling a new well with water branch to the different houses and school. (completed).
3. Complete the construction of the three school buildings and bring them into operation for classes at the end of January 2022. (completed)
4. The construction of a large concrete terrace between the buildings so that children do not have to enter both the school and the dormitory with mud during heavy rains. (completed)
5. The school and orphanage to be completely enclosed with a good, solid walled fence (completed)
6. Last but certainly not least, I would like to buy a new plot of land near the orphanage, where I can expand the orphanage. (completed)
7. Construction of new separate bathrooms for boys and girls (completed)
8. In Katuugo, I still have several works to complete: 1) Including the construction of a new dormitory, which has a high priority. 2) New water pipes and tabs to the bathrooms and toilets. 3) Put gutters in the various buildings with collector tanks. 4) Next to the kitchen still a small building where dishes can be decently washed out of the rain or strong sun. 5) The purchase of a 15 kg washing machine. 9. In Kenya in Oboke in an orphanage where 250 orphans live, I would also like to prioritize the construction of a new well 220 meters in depth, with external reservoirs and a network with water diversions to the various buildings, bathrooms, kitchen and the present school. The pump will be activated through the energy of 16 solar panels. My task is precisely to provide an efficient, quality water service to cover this large orphanage. This next story is too long, so I avoid telling it as I'd have to. In 2005, at the age of twelve, my son Niels, was struck down by a rare metabolic disease, GM1 Gangliosidosis, one to two cases in a million for which there was absolutely no cure, with a maximum life prognosis of three years. After about a year of hell between different hospitals and specialist visits; he was given up for lost. Unexpectedly he seemed to improve without any treatment or medication. After yet another period, in a university hospital in Gent Belgium, the doctors who were following this case, told us definitively that this serious illness, was no longer detected in him, not knowing how to give a right answer to his sudden recovery .... From this moment on, I was changed, changed and felt indebted, indebted for my son's life. This in a nutshell is what drove me to work in Central Africa.

Below a video taken in 2015, with the old situation at Kasaala's community, where water from a polluted puddle had to be transported several kilometres away, for drinking, cooking, washing etc. I let drilled a new water-well here; from which they always have the availability of drinking water, this rich source guarantees healthy water for tens of years. Behind me , the water reservoir that comes from the well and is continuously available to the community.

See below this moving letter written by a girl from the community where I let drilled a new well. In the first photos we see women and children taking water from contaminated puddles. The same persons are also in the last pictures a year later, with clean and safe water at their disposal.
