Hi, my name is Cristian and I've started fundraising for my nephew Stefano, who is 2 years old, to assist him with his long health recovery after primary brain surgery.

Stefano started to be sick last July 2022. After several exams due to this persistent illness, an accurate MRI brought up the unimaginable... he was diagnosed with a rare brain cancer, named ependymoma. At the time of the diagnosis on October 1st, 2022, the tumoral mass was already very big.

Suddenly, his medical conditions became life-threatening, and due to the high pressure that the tumor created inside the skull, Stefano was admitted to the emergency room and then to a major brain surgery. After 8 hours of surgical procedure, the doctors were able to remove most of the tumoral mass, however, the tumor was too deep and it was not possible for them to proceed further.

After the surgery, Stefano had a very small chance to survive, but fortunately, a first miracle happened and he started to slowly recover. He spent several weeks in ICU under a respirator, losing a lot of weight. To help his recovery, Stefano went through a tracheotomy to breathe normally, and a catheter connected directly to his stomach allows him to be fed since he cannot eat normally. Due to the huge loss of weight and muscle tone, Stefano is currently not able to walk. He will need daily physical therapy to recover the full usage of his body skills, and this treatment is needed for a long time.

On top of all these treatments, he will need to start as soon as possible radio and chemotherapy to remove the residual mass still present in his brain and the path to fully recovering from this medical treatment will be also very long.

Since October 2022 Stefano was medically treated first in Messina and then relocated to Catania, so my brother and my sister-in-law had to relocate from their town, Ragusa to Catania, to assist Stefano day and night; by doing that they had to stop working and this brought a stressful economic loss on top of their worries for their son's health.

Please help me raise funds to help Stefano and his parents to go through this tough time and to bring back a wonderful smile to his face. My entire family and I will appreciate all your help.

Ciao, mi chiamo Cristian e ho iniziato una raccolta fondi per mio nipote Stefano, che ha 2 anni, per aiutarlo nel suo lungo recupero di salute dopo un importante intervento chirurgico al cervello.

Stefano ha iniziato a stare male lo scorso luglio 2022. Dopo diversi esami dovuti a questa persistente malattia, un'accurata risonanza magnetica ha portato alla luce l'inimmaginabile... gli è stato diagnosticato un raro tumore al cervello, chiamato ependimoma. Al momento della diagnosi, il 1 ottobre 2022, la massa tumorale era già molto grande.

All'improvviso, le sue condizioni mediche sono diventate pericolose per la sua vita e, a causa dell'elevata pressione che il tumore ha creato all'interno del cranio, Stefano è stato ricoverato al pronto soccorso e poi sottoposto a un importante intervento chirurgico al cervello. Dopo 8 ore di intervento chirurgico i medici sono riusciti ad asportare gran parte della massa tumorale, tuttavia il tumore era troppo profondo e non è stato possibile procedere oltre.

Dopo l'intervento, Stefano ha avuto poche possibilità di sopravvivere, ma fortunatamente è avvenuto un primo miracolo e ha iniziato a riprendersi lentamente. Ha trascorso diverse settimane in terapia intensiva sotto un respiratore, perdendo molto peso. Per aiutarlo a riprendersi, Stefano ha subito una tracheotomia per respirare normalmente, e un catetere collegato direttamente allo stomaco gli permette di essere nutrito poiché non può mangiare normalmente. A causa dell'enorme perdita di peso e tono muscolare, Stefano al momento non è in grado di camminare. Avrà bisogno di una terapia fisica quotidiana per recuperare il pieno utilizzo delle sue capacità corporee e questo trattamento è necessario per molto tempo.

Oltre a tutte queste cure, dovrà iniziare al più presto radio e chemioterapia per rimuovere la massa residua ancora presente nel suo cervello e anche il percorso per riprendersi completamente da questo trattamento medico sarà molto lungo.

Da ottobre 2022 Stefano è stato curato prima a Messina e poi trasferito a Catania, quindi mio fratello e mia cognata hanno dovuto trasferirsi dalla loro città, Ragusa, a Catania, per assistere Stefano giorno e notte; così facendo hanno dovuto smettere di lavorare e questo ha comportato una stressante perdita economica oltre alle preoccupazioni per la salute del figlio.

Per favore aiutami a raccogliere fondi per aiutare Stefano e i suoi genitori a superare questo momento difficile e a fargli tornare un sorriso meraviglioso. Tutta la mia famiglia e io apprezzeremo tutto il vostro aiuto.
