Erg for Trans Day of Remembrance

My name is Cillian Mullen, and I am a first-year student at the University of Virginia on the Women's D1 Rowing Team. I am also transgender, which has largely impacted my journey in the sport thus far. This year, I wanted to do something to help the trans community using my sport. Trans Day of Remembrance (on Sunday, 11/20) is a day to recognize the lives lost in the transgender community. It also identifies how we must strive to be better at protecting trans people and lower the rate at which trans people attempt suicide, are murdered, and otherwise killed by a corrupt system that continually fails them. As someone who has had the privilege of being relatively safe throughout my experience in being transgender, I want to recognize that I need to use that privilege and act to help my trans siblings.

That's why I am planning an ergathon for that Sunday, and for every dollar raised, I will be adding 10 meters to the total amount I will complete on the erg that day. For example, if we reach the goal of 500 dollars, I will erg for 50k. Please consider donating to help trans people in Virginia in need! Our goal is to offer safe emergency and temporary transitional housing to homeless transgender adults in our community, and to help them find the additional resources they need to remove the barriers to self-sufficiency.
