Help Us Give a Lonely Donkey a New Lease on Life!

Meet the donkey COCOA.

Many of you already know this donkey or have seen it standing on a piece of land in a small village in the region of Arganil.

Here he lived tied to a short piece of rope for 11 years! All alone! And to think that donkeys are social animals. Luckily there were people who were very concerned about this donkey and gave him for example daily his water and attention ( donkeys drink at least 18 liter water a day!). Imagine if he didn't get that!

After a lot of difficulties the owner finally let him go .....but only in exange of money! So through the first crowdfunding we managed to raise money to take him off the rope for good.

COCOA IS FREE NOW!

He is now in a loving fosterhome where he recieves hay /water to strengthen and of course a lot of love.

First priority is to take care of him physical, like hoofs, tetanus injection and castration.

The castration will be necacarry for him to live in peace among other donkeys as they are herd animals and can hardly be alone. As donkeys can live between 35-40 years the preference is to keep Cocoa with other donkeys the rest of his life from now.

The organization L.I.S.A. had already payed for the care of the the hoofs, care of food and also a start amount for the payment for the castration. After advice and help from the donkey sanctuary in the north of Portugal we decided this week to get the castration done in the hospital but the costs unfortunately will be al little more.

This funding will be spend on the extra costs for this special castration and the transport. This will be an estimate of €300

After he is castrated and stronger he will be up for adoption and we found already some beautiful new home options for Cocoa to live.
