Make a difference! Stand with ZPP and the Zambian monkeys!
Zambia Primate Project (ZPP)’s mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and release back to the wild vervet monkeys and baboons that are victims of the illegal wildlife trade in Zambia. It was set up in 2009 by the Founder, Dr Cheryl Mvula, originally as a project of the Born Free Foundation.
Today, ZPP is a Zambian-owned and registered not-for-profit primate welfare organisation operating out of Kafue National Park in Zambia, working in close collaboration with the Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW), in support of their remit to protect Zambia’s wildlife.
ZPP is a small organisation making a big impact. To date, the team members have rescued over 780 primates from horrid conditions in Zambia: usually tied on short chains, fed poorly, physically abused, deprived of daylight or kept in full sun, victims of snares, have teeth removed or fingers cut off and are sometimes sexually abused. After their confiscation, the rescued primates are transferred to ZPP’s Primate Pre-release Facility in Kafue National Park, where they will be rehabilitated, a long process that prepares the vervet monkeys and baboons for their deserved life back in the wild. When the troops are ready, they are released in Kafue National Park and will be monitored by the team for one year to ensure their maximal survival. The survival rate of the primates ZPP releases currently averages between 95 and 100% at the twelve months post-release mark, making ZPP one of, if not the, most successful primate release projects in the world.
ZPP fights hard to protect Zambian primates. Besides their rescue program that covers the whole country of Zambia, ZPP also carries out Primate Protection - Community Education & Sensitisation Programs in schools and communities. These programs directly address people beliefs, and give the communities an insight into the penalties associated with the poaching and illegal ownership of primates.
As a non-profit organization ZPP rely solely on donations from individuals, organizations, and the community. Make a difference and DONATE today! 100% of the funds go to ZPP! SHARE this campaign to support their incredible work!
