Lost everything in condo explosion

Hi, my name is Olga, and the apartment where my husband and I lived lies in rubble after the recent explosion this week in Gaithersburg, MD. We are writing to you today in an effort to fundraise to hopefully get back on our feet after this explosion.

On the morning of November 16 at about 8:40 AM, I was working at NIST and my husband Andrei was working at home in our apartment on the 3rd floor. At this moment the explosion occurred and Andrei was blown up to the ceiling before falling down to the 2nd floor, to the apartment where the blast happened. When he woke up, he couldn't move for a while and then realized that his right arm was in an awkward position. Later, it was determined he had broken his shoulder. Everywhere he looked, he saw fire, but he managed to crawl to the balcony by leaning on his left arm.

He considered jumping from the balcony but hesitated for a while. In the meantime, a man came running towards him with a ladder and hovered underneath, ready to catch him if he faltered. Others arrived and helped as needed.

Afterwards, he was hospitalized at the Suburban Hospital, eventually having surgery to fix the broken shoulder. Throughout all this time, I was working at NIST and had no idea any of this was happening. I was highly shocked when a police officer came to find me at NIST and was unable to provide much information on how Andrei was doing. We are both in a safe place now, staying with our friends.

We moved to the US two months ago, moved into this apartment and started to get settled in, bought new bikes and some furniture. However, it is all just ruined now. We lost nearly all our documents and a good amount of cash. We didn't have renter’s insurance, so these losses will not be covered. Now we are looking for a new home and must pay the medical bills. Also, there is some physical therapy for Andrei ahead.

Therefore, we are asking for monetary help. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
