The Slyter’s Flood Relief

Donation protected
Colin, Leah, and their one year old Raylan evacuated from their Nooksack, WA home on November 14, 2021 due to the devastating flood Whatcom County experienced. They left quickly, learning this was crucial after enduring the flood of February 2020 where they had to flee their home and wade out through water with a newborn and dog. This current flood was exponentially more dangerous and damaging. The Slyter family is currently staying with family and are thankful to be together and safe. By Tuesday, the water had receded enough that Colin and Leah were able to make it back to their home to assess the damage. They discovered a layer of water that came up through the floorboards after the crawlspace was filled and flood water continued to rise. The floor, subfloor, and carpets will all need to be ripped up and replaced. All belongings on the floor will have to be thrown out and replaced as well. The garage was filled with several feet of water, which destroyed all of their belongings. Leah’s car was in the garage and is a total loss. They’ll continue to assess the damage in the coming days and figure out what else will need to be done. Colin and Leah are thankful for the outpouring of prayers and messages making sure they’re safe and offering help.

Some background on the family for those that may be unfamiliar: Colin is a deputy with the Whatcom County Sheriff’s office and serves in the Air National Guard. Leah is currently a stay at home mama to their almost two year old little boy. Colin and Leah have both grown up in this county and continue to serve this community, as well as this country. They are humble, good people who deserve to receive any and all types of assistance at this time. Thankfully they have flood insurance, but the deductible of $10,000 for property and $10,000 for personal items is creating a devastating financial burden. The Slyter family faces many unknowns in the following days, weeks, and months. Any donation, prayer, or kind message sent their way would help lift this local family up during this tragic time.
