Be a Blessing for Bill & April Cline

Donation protected
Bill and April Cline have been dear friends of mine for most of my life. We were schoolmates and friends separately before they started dating and eventually married. Bill and I became friends way back in the seventh grade, thanks to being in the middle school band. Being a year behind us in school, I met April later thanks, again, to being in the band. As many of you have come to know through both long-term relationships and recent introductions, Bill and April are truly wonderful people. If Bill Cline cannot get you to laugh at something, you don’t have a funny bone. If April Cline doesn’t light up your world with her smile, you cannot see. In short, they are two of the best people you’ll ever meet.

Bill and April live lives that are dedicated to the service of others. Bill has been a minister for many years now, currently serving as the Lead Pastor at Kingston Baptist Church. April is a dedicated nurse, providing quality care to everyone from newborns to the elderly. Many in our community have been blessed by their commitment to caring for others. From baptisms to weddings to funerals, Bill has been a steady voice in a raging world. April has comforted and cared for many souls, from those taking their first breaths to those facing their last. Throughout their years of serving others, many have benefited from their efforts. At this moment in time, however, they are facing a situation that offers those of us who have received so freely from April and Bill an opportunity to serve these servants.

Earlier this month, April and Bill were both diagnosed with COVID-19. Within a week, Bill was admitted to the hospital. First admitted to regular room, Bill was soon moved to the ICU to support the level of oxygen he needed. Then, on January 16, Bill had to be put on a ventilator to help him breath. Since that day, he has been sedated while on the ventilator, spending most of his days on his stomach. April has been unable to be with Bill during this unprecedented time in their 28-year marriage. This would be difficult for a healthy person, but April has also been dealing with the debilitating impact of the virus. Having recently been able to accompany one of my own children during a hospital stay, it pains my heart to think about the two of them being separated during this time.

After contracting COVID-19, Bill and April have been unable to work, and Bill’s hospital stay will certainly cause a hit to their family’s finances – as it would for so many of us. As I sit here thinking of one of my dearest friends lying face-down in a hospital bed, breathing with the assistance of a ventilator, I find myself wanting to do something, anything, for this incredible couple who has been such dear friends to me and my family for so many years.

This weekend, I heard about someone setting up a Gofundme account for a friend that could use some help during a tough time. It then occurred to me that this is something we could all do to help these two wonderful people. As a result, I am opening this Gofundme account to provide myself and others the chance to provide some assistance to Bill and April as they deal with their current circumstance and as they manage the bills that will come due once Bill is back home with all of us. So, I am asking all of those who have been blessed by knowing April and Bill to provide a contribution to help them as they have helped so many others in the past. Please contribute any amount that you feel lead to donate, both small and large. All the proceeds will go directly to Bill and April.

I know many of you know family, friends, and co-workers that have been afflicted by COVID-19, and I know some of you have loved ones that were taken by this same terrible virus. My heart breaks for all who have been touched by this awful illness. I wish I could stop this horrible virus and undo all the harm it has caused. I wish I could help everyone who has felt the impact of its grasp. While I cannot help all those people, I am asking for you to help these two people who are dear to my heart, and I know are dear to many of yours, during this heart-breaking time. I thank you for any assistance you can provide. May God bless you and keep you and yours close in His arms.

Thank you,
David Ponder
