Blind mum of 4 needs to see again

My story - so in early 2020, I was diagnosed with stage 3 retinopathy caused by complications with type 1 diabetes ( and no… I didn’t eat too much sugar!)

At the time I was expecting my 3rd child so not much could be done till after the birth

March came and went, and I had my daughter… and the world had COVID 19!

So my proposed 2 surgeries were delayed for the foreseeable ( in my case quite literally) and the nhs just couldn’t keep up

Then June 2021 we discovered we were expecting a “oops baby moose” and obviously the surgery was delayed even further… not that they were quite ready for me yet anyway

But I did go through 30 minutes of lazer treatment every 2 weeks with a 7 week break between several 2 week sessions just to try to temporarily repair the holes at the back of my eyes and patch up the bleeds

My daughter was born NYE 2021 all completely healthy but sadly for me, my first retina detachment happened when she was 6 weeks old

My vision has since got considerably worse in both eyes and despite now FIVE surgeries, (some worse and far more gross than others) I have a predicted 25/30 percentage of useful vision in my left eye, and virtually nothing in my right eye- and that’s with big thick lenses

Another 2 more surgeries proposed - speaking to a consultant for another pre op in the morning… I’m hopeful for at least a little bit of positive change , but I’m also being realistic that I will unfortunately have a visual impairment for the rest of my life

Made up this page for several reasons.

Firstly I’m gonna try to self fund an Or Cam my eye

It’s an A.I device that is wearable on specs and audibly reads, has facial recognition and generally helps people such as myself to do every day tasks independently
