Help Educational Farm with Building Repairs

My name is Debbie Waugh, and I am fundraising for Salamander Springs Farm. I am retiring from teaching in May of this year and have a three-year plan to turn part of my fifty-acre forest in Middle Georgia into an educational non-profit that offers free summer children's science day camps (partnering with local university professors), classes in sustainability and organic growing, opportunities for community building, learning and developing land/farm-related skills, and growing and marketing farm products.

Although I have been on the land for 25 years, I have always worked full-time. Now I can devote 100% of my energy and time to creating and sustaining a place of learning. Here, at Salamander Springs, young people can discover they are capable of anything, develop a deep, lasting connection with the natural world, and live and volunteer in a safe, beautiful place with others who care about the planet and its inhabitants. Many of the volunteers who come to the Farm through local colleges, WWOOF, or word-of-mouth, learn and grow and go out into the world doing wonderful things.

During the week of February 28, I have a former volunteer who is coming to finish the interior of the bunkhouse/classroom he and about ten other volunteers built last February.

Hank is an experienced timber frame builder; the photo is of the classroom/bunkhouse he and many other former wwoofers built last winter, even hauling the timbers on a trailer from Massachusetts to Georgia in the winter. And took off work to volunteer their time.

So, several others are coming to help, but we need materials to get the interior finished and to repair other cabins that have roof leaks and other structural problems.

The volunteer builders and I will use all donations to purchase lumber, screws, drill bits, woodstove, stovepipe, floor materials, and caulk, first, to complete any unfinished work on the bunkhouse, both inside and out. Then, all remaining money will be used to buy materials to repair outdoor kitchen, library, and three cabins for volunteers.

I am extremely grateful for every dollar you can donate for building materials. So many kind
young people are donating their time and skills on this project; all they need is something to work with.
With your help, we can offer a beautiful, safe place where young people can discover themselves.

If you are unable to give, please pass the link onward.

With love and gratitude,
Debbie
