Mila’s Spinal Surgery

Hi, I am creating this Gofundme on behalf of my good friends who have one of the strongest, sweetest kids I know.

Sweet Mila has been through more in her 5 years of life than many people go through in a lifetime. Countless procedures, tests and surgeries. Her parents are constantly driving back and forth to Philadelphia for all of her treatment. Mila is also on a high-risk trial medication at CHOP.

For those of you who didn’t know, Mila suffers from two different rare chronic illnesses (Gastroparesis & Chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction). Gastroparesis is a condition that affects the stomach muscles and prevents proper stomach emptying. Basically causing paralysis of the stomach. Chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction spinal nerve or muscle problems prevent food, fluid, and air from moving through the stomach and intestines. The child experiences the symptoms of an intestinal blockage, though no actual physical blockage exists. Mila has been dealing with these debilitating conditions since she was born at 25 weeks, weighing only 1lb 2oz and spending 84 days in the NICU. It has been a constant rollercoaster for this family.

Mila recently had an MRI done due to symptoms that were not improving, and her doctor was suspicious of her having a spinal cord issue. Mila’s parents found out she needs to have spinal surgery for a Tethered spinal cord, which is what the doctor found on her MRI. If she does not get the surgery, her symptoms will continue to worsen. Yet another shock for Mila’s parents who have been through so much and still remain so strong for their daughter.

Mila is a beautiful, strong, happy, funny, sweet little girl who is going to do BIG things in life. With everything she goes through and the pain she feels on a day-to-day basis, she still has a smile on her face and is loving life. She is truly an inspiration.
