Help Hunan Village II in Hartsdale Recover!

Hi everyone,

Thank you from my family for all the generous donations and social sharing. We are so grateful to our combined communities for supporting our family in this way. We just received notification this weekend that our SBA Loan application was DENIED. This means that our mother is unable to receive insurance or government funds for this disaster, which is a huge disappointment to say the least, as Westchester County was declared a Natural Disaster Zone by the President. 

We are determined to keep pushing through and doing all that we can to get the restaurant up and running through our grassroots fundraising. We want to send everyone a heartfelt thank you for all your help. We will continue to share this fundraiser as any donation or awareness helps.

Hi, everyone,

 

Our names are Jessica & Jennifer Jeng and we are speaking on behalf of our mother Gloria Jeng, owner of Hunan Village II in Hartsdale. She has been in business for 14 years (since 2007) and anyone who has gone to the restaurant knows it’s a family business (and may have seen our siblings and family members help out). What keeps my mom going is the positive feedback and encouragement she gets from her customers which have formed longterm friendships that have made Hunan Village II feel like a home.

 

In September, Hurricane Ida caused many homes and businesses to flood. Hunan Village II was one of those businesses. The rain overwhelmed the restaurant’s basement, causing the entire basement to flood all the way up to the main dining room, bar and kitchen. Our mom came to the restaurant the next day (she does an hourly one-way commute from Queens to Hartsdale everyday) and her heart broke. Months worth of food, supplies, alcohol, and more, were completely submerged in the resulting flood from Hurricane Ida, all of which could not be salvaged. In terms of long term damage, the entire storage/basement floor is currently in complete renovation, as well as additional renovation of the entrance floor/dining level.

 

With her livelihood and dream at stake, my mother and stepfather have been going to the restaurant everyday to clean it up and do their best to get it re-open. We had been hopeful that insurance would cover some of it but found out a few weeks ago that the insurance company denied ALL OF THE CLAIM and is refusing to pay anything for damages. We have been in touch with FEMA and SBA but have not gotten any final updates to date on our application.

 

Since then, my mother has been paying out of her own pocket to fix up the restaurant and get it re-open ASAP. Hunan Village II is a small, family-owned business so we’re doing our best to chip in and re-open but the costs have been overwhelming.

 

If you want to help Hunan Village II re-open, we welcome any donation you can make, big or small. Your donations would go towards helping our mom, such as replacing her appliances (industrial fridges/freezers for food), supplies (take out bags and containers, menus, utensils) and making sure all of our plumbing and electrical needs are safely replaced.

 

Our family have put so much of ourselves into the restaurant over this past decade+ and want it to be the place where you bond, laugh, and love with friends and family. We hope to be that again for you.
