Help Reba and Carl Shaneyfelt Rebuild after Fire

Donation protected
Hi - My name is Mallory Barnett and my fiance, Johnnie's,  grandparents are Reba & Carl Shaneyfelt. We live in Birmingham, Alabama and Reba & Carl live nearby in Clay, Alabama. January 2021, Reba, (affectionately known as Nana), was making lunch for her husband of 58 years, Carl (affectionately known as Papa), when a fire started in their kitchen. Thankfully they both made it out safely but the damage to their house is devastating.

We now have a huge hill to climb to get their house completely cleaned of debris and fire damage. We will have to completely rebuild their kitchen and their front living room, and 90% of the furniture in their house will have to be replaced because of the fire damage. Beds, dressers, tables, and more all have to go. We also have to pay to have the attic cleaned and reinsulated, as well as electrical all rewired. Walls will have to be rebuilt and re-sheetrocked, sealed, and painted. They are really starting from square one. And they did not have home insurance on the home and they have no savings.

They obviously also need all new kitchen appliances and cabinets- stove and oven, refrigerator, plates, cups, basic kitchen needs, and more. And if you know Nana at all, you know her cooking, and how she shows so much of her love and her heart through food. She spent many years after she retired from her construction job, taking care of elderly people in the community - sitting with them, keeping them company, but most importantly feeding them.

Both her and Papa have always ALWAYS had a revolving door in their home, open to any and everyone who needed a safe place to land - whether for 2 weeks or 2 years. They are genuinely 2 of the kindest people you could ever meet and right now they need our generosity.  They have raised their children, grandchildren, taken in 2 foster children, and housed 5 different exchange students over the years.

Carl Shaneyfelt spent 24 years in the Army National Guard in the 131st Signal Unit. He fell in love with Nana while she was visiting from New Jersey and he wasn't going to let her out of his sights. They got married 58 years ago and they still are the most incredible duo and couple.
But they've had their struggles too - Nana is a breast cancer survivor and still is wading through the toll that took on her all these years later. And Papa has a neurological disorder known as Spinocerebellar Ataxia Type 6 - which has severely limited his mobility and balance. So while they have constantly tried to take care of others, it's time for us to take care of them.

They have made a good and simple life and have lived in that home for well over 30 years and we want to do everything we can to get them back in to their home. But we can't do it without financial support.

$1, $2, whatever you can give. And most importantly - if you could share this with everyone you know. Maybe you'll see a little bit of your Nana and Papa in them, maybe you're a veteran, maybe you love cooking as much as Nana. We hope you can find room in you to help us get them home. All of this money will be used so we can pay contractors and cleaning companies for them for all of the necessary repairs listed above.

Thank you.
