Help Kevin and Burgey's Pub and Prime

Donation protected

Uncle Kevin was involved in a terrible motorcycle accident a week ago.   While he is fighting for his life, our cousin is fighting to see her dad while trying to keep his business going.

He’s a guy that would give you the shirt off his back and the last dollar in his wallet if you were in need.  Now I’m hoping we can help him,  even though he wouldn’t want a “hand out”.  I know for certain  he wouldn’t want his daughter to be stuck with the financial burden of running their business during this time.

I asked mouse to tell the story about what happened to Uncle Kevin and what is going on now with his business for people that are not familiar with the situation.

"On the morning of Sunday May 3rd dad was involved in a horrific motorcycle accident. As an experienced driver we were all shocked to hear this, but it is becoming clear that his rear tire Unexpectedly blew out causing immediate loss of control. His long time girlfriend Marcy was riding with him as well. Thankfully Marcys injuries were non-life threatening and she is now home healing. Dad, however, was seriously injured. A couple of friends in the group he was traveling with are first responders and a passerby happened to be a physician who immediately began CPR on Dad while waiting for paramedics to arrive. He was transported to a small, rural hospital in prairie du Chien that immediately prepared Dad for a flight for life  transfer to the nearest high level trauma center. They struggled to get his blood pressure stable forcing them to land in lacrosse rather than Madison or Milwaukee as originally planned. Dad remains in critical care at Gundersen hospital in Lacrosse. His injuries are life threatening and our biggest concern are the head injuries he sustained. we are still taking things day to day. He has a ventilator breathing for him throughout this ordeal, as they continue to keep him heavily sedated allowing the swelling in his head to go down and keep his heart rate and blood pressure stable. He has an EVD (drain tube) in his head to relieve excess fluid build up. He also has one chest tube remaining in place as well. He receives neurological checks every four hours at which time they back down on his sedation meds and see if he is able to respond to their commands. Unfortunately due to the COVID-19 regulations we are no longer allowed to see Dad, which has been heartbreaking and extremely frustrating. We are doing everything in our power to be sure Dad is being cared for both physically and mentally.
Prior to this accident Dads business, Burgey's Pub & Prime (along with so many other small businesses) was directly affected by the new regulations put into effect due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The financial strains of trying to maintain a business that is not allowed by law to fully operate, meant Dad was using his own personal money to cover payroll and many operating expenses."

Mellisa (mouse) has been working side by side with her dad the last couple of years at Burgey's, and has now had to completely take over the business and navigate things on top of everything going on with her dad.

Adding to the stress, the hospital has not yet released Kevin's wallet which contains all of the business cards (and is refusing to at this point) leaving no other avenue but to seek out legal assistance.

Mellisa's main source of income for herself and her three children has come through Working with her Dad at Burgey's.

Mellisa and her fiancé Ben reopened Burgey's as they both know that is what her dad would want them to do.  They want to continue to serve all of the customers that have helped Dads business grow into what its become. However, operating a business without access to business accounts/finances, and not yet being able to fully operate with the continued COVID restrictions is a huge financial headache.
We have no idea yet what the future holds with Uncle Kevin as the situation  is day by day. But we know he is one of the strongest men there is, and he has an army of people praying for him.
