World Cup Season Support

Donation protected
Dear reader,

My name is Kevin Boyer and I am a 2018 Olympian and a member of the Canadian National Skeleton Team. This season will be my 5th consecutive season representing Canada on the World Cup circuit. I have proudly represented Canada in an Olympic Games, 2 World Championships and 3 Junior World Championships.

I started the sport of skeleton in the fall of 2010 after Jon Montgomery won the gold medal in the Vancouver Olympics. That moment sparked a dream and a journey for me. Early in my career there was no funding available for developing skeleton athletes. I am very lucky to have super supportive and loving parents that helped with my development. As I progressed I was named to my first World Cup team in the 2016-17 season. That season there was an Olympic test event at the Olympic sliding centre in PyeongChang, South Korea. Prior to that race I was cut from the team and didn't make the trip to South Korea. This put me in an unfavourable position heading into the Olympic season. With hard work I was able to reclaim my spot on the World Cup team and delivered strong performances on the World Cup circuit to qualify for the 2018 Olympic Games. From not being expected to be chosen to the team I finished my Olympic games as the top Canadian finishing in 17th place. I was also the only Canadian male to qualify for the 4th and final heat despite being cut from the team a year before not having as much experience on the Olympic track.

This season we were informed that we will have freedom and flexibility to identify individual technical coaching plans and training and competition strategies. This has created more financial burden as I prepare for my competitions.

This season I will be competing in 3 World Cup competitions taking place in Winterberg Germany, St. Moritz Switzerland and Königssee Germany. While at these races I will be trying to qualify for my 3rd World Championships which will be held in Altenberg, Germany in February.

I have a part time job in the off season for my living and training expenses. I also will be receiving 8 months of Sport Canada AAP Sr. carding as well as the Podium Alberta provincial grant. In a normal season this support is enough to help me compete. However this season is different and I am now asking for your additional support.

Your support will help cover the cost of rental cars, hotel rooms, Covid-19 tests,
and coaching support. A donation will also help me in achieving my goal of representing Canada in the 2022 Winter Olympic Games. You will be able to watch my races which are broadcast online on the CBC sports website in Canada. You can also follow my journey on my social media platforms listed below.

Thank you for your time.

Yours in sport,

Kevin Boyer
