Eagle Project: Save the Dam of Knofla Pond
Donation protected
Hi! My name is Anthony Harkins. I am a member of Boy Scout Troop 2 in Tolland, CT and I am working on my Eagle Scout Project.
My project is to build two structures in the pond of the Knofla Conservation Area, benefiting the Tolland Conservation Commission. This project will help to save the pond, an existing earthen dam, and protect the animals, particularly beavers, who call the area home. Because of beaver activity, the water level of the pond has risen and is threatening a very old earthen dam that creates the pond and drowning the trees in the immediate area.
My project will allow water to safely flow from the pond, over the beaver's dam, and into a spillway, along with a wire barrier at a culvert that will prevent debris from beaver activity from blocking it. These devices will allow the beavers to live peacefully in the pond, eliminating the need to relocate them and prevent damage to the earthen dam which could cause major flooding of the land, destroying the pond and surrounding habitat. I estimate this project will cost $600 and I am seeking financial aid from friends, family, and others who are willing to support this project. Should donation amounts exceed what is needed for the project, all remaining funds will be donated to the Tolland Conservation Commission. Because of time constraints, I am looking to complete work in the next few weeks.
Thank you in advance for your help,
Anthony
